Hello community,

I'm new to the Proxmox world and I have 2 Dell servers that I would like to put in a Proxmox cluster.
The 2 servers I have are a Dell PowerEdge R310 and an R320, the R310 has a PERC H700 with BBU and the R320 has a PERC H310 without BBU. I have read on the right and left that Proxmox does not recognize physical RAIDS without BBU which would make the R320 incompatible.
I don't want to use software RAID but only physical RAID.

Has anyone installed Proxmox on such servers and did it recognize the physical RAID or do you think it will be compatible?

Thanks

I've got Proxmox on multiple Dell servers (from 2950 to R740)

H700 will work without problem.
H310 wont work.
You have 2 choices : Either do not use RAID or use mdadm software raid.

In my opinion, if you have a shared storage (iSCSI, NFS, Ceph) you dont need raid for the system. I've been using Proxmox since 1.9. There is really little write io on the system disk and even if the disk fails, you have a backup of the VM.conf file in /etc/pve/nodes/{nodename}.

For a real production environment, you should have HW RAID with BBU.

Thank you for your answer.
I've seen some website that were selling the H710 mini. I think I will just replace the RAID controller for my R320 and go with HW RAID.

I have a R310 with a S300 raid controller, does anyone know how to disable it, I would be fine with using madam but as far as I understand it I would need to switch off the raid controller function to more or less use it only as a sata controller
