Hi all,
New here, I hope I am posting in the correct area.
Just installed proxmox 1.7 on my home server yesterday, and would like to know some things (I have looked through the wiki and forums etc already).
With the openvz appliances, can I install the 8.04 ubuntu and update it to the latest realease (10.10 I think)?
Or is there a better way of doing this?
This is a home server so I have only 1, this server was a ubuntu file server (until I nuked it with proxmox yesterday ^_^ ).
So I need to put a virtual ubuntu nas on it and was wondering the best way of doing this.
I know it has been said on some posts that running a virtulized NAS makes no sense, but in my situation I want to use proxmox and only have the 1 server, so meh.
What are the main reasons for not running a virtualized NAS?
Is it safe to run a live NAS on proxmox?
What is the best way of going about doing this (e.g making a small vm with say 10gb and install ubuntu, and then create a empty container for it to access, assuming this is possible, I don't know?)
Also when you create a new virtual machine via the web interface, it asks for image format and disk type?
What should these be and can someone give me a brief understanding of these (e.g qcow2, raw, vmdk, and ide, scsi, virtio).
Will it also automatically use the hosts 1gb network card?
If not, how do I go about making this so?
I know a lot of questions, but really new to proxmox.
Many thanks,
Tom,
