Yes it has been asked before, a decade ago. Things have moved on, we no longer use OpenVZ. How is it done 2019?

I can rename the devices under /dev/pve and update the config files under /etc/pve/qemu-server, but after a reboot the symlinks under /dev/pve are back to their old values. I suppose LVM may be renaming the symlinks on boot, but they must be getting the values from somewhere.

Where?

Hi,
to change the VMID please perform a backup and restore the backup to a different VMID. This is the easiest way to achieve what you want!
