Hi all,
New to proxmox here. I downloaded the iso and installed it onto a USB using rufus, I then booted my machine (It is a HP Elitedesk 800 G3 i5-7600T, 8GB ram, 256gb ssd) and booted it to the usb, I went through the install OK, set my IP address as required OK.

I wanted to setup a VM, so I started downloading an ISO from Ubuntu on the proxmox server, it was taking a while and this is normal due to slow internet in my house. However, half way through downloading it says connection error and so I thought fine, I'll upload it instead, I wasn't able to as it said connection error so I refreshed and now I am getting connection refused error. I rebooted the machine OK. I can ping the IP address of the machine (192.168.0.2) and it responds fine, however when I go into the web browser, at 192.168.0.2:8006 - nothing happens and it says connection refused. I'm not sure what to do, I connected it to a display and it's fine and it says "Welcome to the Proxmox Virtual Environment. Please use your web browser to configure this server - connect to: https://192.168.0.2:8006/"

I'm not sure what to do and this has happened out of no where...

I followed this guide and it did not help.
https://forum.proxmox.com/threads/help-with-changing-ip-address-reinstalling.55421/

When I try to ping google.com or even 192.168.0.1 (gateway) I get destination host unreachable -if i unplug the network cable out then in, its fine for like 5 pings then stops working again....

I left it pinging for 20 minutes and only now has it started to ping normally.
After 7 minutes it stopped being uncontactable half way through downloading an iso
After 2 min its fine. Is there a way to check for network card failure or is this proxmox issue?

Are you absolutely positive there's nothing else on the 192.168.0.2? If it is in DHCP pool, it might have been handed out at the same time to another machine. Can you arping?

NB The title would help changing, not that I am PVE defendant, but it's not helpful for people to glance and know what exactly you are troubleshooting (network).

Changing the IP address in /etc/network/interfaces and then /etc/hosts as well. Changed it to 192.168.0.170 made surre that IP wasn't being used.

What needs to be changed in the title?

Just installed windows 10 pro on the machine and getting the same issue, not sure if its because I'm using a powerline adapter or not. I will do more testing at worrk tomorrow. But after shutting off a high power usage device on the power, it seems fine... Not sure if this was the issue or not?

I would say your problem was specific to network no PVE.

That's something you would best mention when making a post like this.

Physics.

Not sure if this was the issue or not?

Very likely.

Solved it.

What worked for me was 1. a reinstall of proxmox and 2. turning off the large power usage device that was on the same circuit as the powerline adapter. , everything worked fine with proxmox after that. I even turned that device back on and everything was fine. Haven't had issues since.
