Solved: VirtIO drivers not working in Windows Server 2025 (Preview Build 26080)

Tried latest stable virtio-win-0.1.240 and most recent virtio-win-0.1.248 both not working. This is on Proxmox 8.1.4. Update: Solved. Installing it from virtio-win-gt-x64.exe fails but manually installing it by clicking on "Update Driver" and selecting "Browse my computer for drivers" in...

Proxmox 8 boot stuck at "EFI stub: Loaded initrd from LINUX_EFI_INITRD_MEDIA_GUID device path"

Update: Works on latest Proxmox v8.1-2 release. Tested on my PowerEdge R330/R440. With UEFI and secure boot enabled, no error message or issues.

Proxmox 8 boot stuck at "EFI stub: Loaded initrd from LINUX_EFI_INITRD_MEDIA_GUID device path"

Tried doing that no luck. Downloaded v7.4-1 to test and got different boot failure. See screenshot. I will try one more time (using default ext4) since eror is zfs related. I have another R330 in BIOS mode running v6.4 fine for over 2 years. Figure I upgrade after two major versions later and...

Proxmox 8 boot stuck at "EFI stub: Loaded initrd from LINUX_EFI_INITRD_MEDIA_GUID device path"

Same here! I clocked 4 hours updating firmware, bios, proxmox v8.0-2 and UEFI, etc. with same error. Tried switching back to BIOS mode and no dice.

Help: 10Gb NICs but only getting 941Mb/s (1Gb) speeds with iperf

Thanks, your information is good. Yes, I installed ifupdown2 on my Proxmox 6.4 for the convenience. I don't think it is the network changes taking affect as I tried ifupdown2 first. Didn't work. Then reboot both servers just in case and didn't work. Also, tried just having one subnet on the 10Gb...

Help: 10Gb NICs but only getting 941Mb/s (1Gb) speeds with iperf

Yay! I got it to work but with one odd issue. If both 1G and 10G are on the same subnet then I am capped at 1G speeds. But if 1G and 10G are on different subnets then iperf for 10G does not connect to each other? I can ping each other successfully on both sides. I suppose is the default gateway...

Help: 10Gb NICs but only getting 941Mb/s (1Gb) speeds with iperf

Did not work. In fact, I got worse results. # iperf -c 10.77.10.81 -P 3 ------------------------------------------------------------ Client connecting to 10.77.10.81, TCP port 5001 TCP window size: 325 KByte (default) ------------------------------------------------------------ [ 4] local...

Help: 10Gb NICs but only getting 941Mb/s (1Gb) speeds with iperf

Thanks, but did not work for me. Tried clients both ways and unfortunately same 940 Mbits/sec results. I will leave the default gateway on the vmbr10 (10Gb port) seems prudent.

Help: 10Gb NICs but only getting 941Mb/s (1Gb) speeds with iperf

I have two Mellanox ConnectX-3 10GbE NICs installed on each proxmox server. I checked NIC link speed at 10Mb with ethtool. However, running iperf tests I get 941Mbits/sec. What am I missing? # iperf -s ------------------------------------------------------------ Server listening on TCP port...

    Mount Point Disk Size

Thanks for the explanation. How do I send the FSTRIM command? I just googled "debian fstrim" and it seems it for SSD optimization. My drives are HDD not SSDs.

    Mount Point Disk Size

I am looking for guidance on how to use "Mount Point: Disk size (GiB)" when I add a mount point. My zfs pool is approx. 26TB with some datasets defined. When I specify the Disk size (GiB), it allows me to enter a maximum of 131072 (or 140TB). How does these two sizes relate? What happens when I...

    File Server

Thanks for the info. I am trying to understand the pros and cons of both methods. Please correct me below if I got it wrong. 1) Samba on host: No extra layer. Not virtualizing on top of host. 2) Samba in LXC: A best practice to leave the host (proxmox) as clean as possible. Any upgrade or...

    File Server

Hi, need help with SAMBA file sharing. I built a new proxmox v5.3 system and want to use it as a file server for Windows shares. There are nine drives a) 600GB SSD drive for proxmox and b) 8X 4TB HDDs setup as ZFS RAIDZ2. I plan on using /tank/media for videos and music and /tank/data for...

    How is Proxmox and Security?

The questions are stupid or stupid answers? These are just questions. I, myself, are switching over from Microsoft. Having tried vmware is great except the high cost and no LXC. It has only been recently I have heard of Proxmox, a much smaller company with even smaller resources, and like to see...

    How is Proxmox and Security?

Would you use Proxmox in a production environment? Would you switch from VMware esxi or Hyper-V to Proxmox? How is security on Proxmox? Are there any security hardening guide for Proxmox/Debian?

Minimum requirements for full high availability (PVE+CEPH)

For a homelab situation where I want to test out Ceph, do I just add additional SSD on each node for ceph? When I am not testing ceph, is it okay to power down one of the three node minimum and would that effect the operation of the other two nodes in anyway?

USB Passthrough external WD easystore 8TB HDD hangs Windows VM

I am trying to access an external Western Digital easystore USB 3.0 8TB HDD via USB passthrough to a Windows Server 2012R2 VM. If I start the VM, it hangs on boot up. It just shows the Windows logo and spinning dots indefinitely. At one point, I was able to log into desktop and see the WD disk...
