Boot the ISO and pick 'Advanced Options' > 'Install Proxmox VE (Debug mode)'. You'll get a shell before the installer runs, then exit to proceed the installer. When it stalls at 99%, switch console with Ctrl+Alt+F3 and grab: cat /tmp/install.log -

I would recommend to upgrade to PVE 9, even in a homelab. If you are running anything important on it it's gross neglect of your dutys to stay on old non-supported versions.
