Zimbra Question - Self-signed Certificates with iOS

I did post on the Zimbra forums first but haven't gotten any help and I am hoping those that run Zimbra on a Proxmox setup as I do could give me some help with this issue:

I have recently noticed that even with no changes to my Zimbra install both my iPad and iPhone are unable to send emails at all. They are able to receive but not send, I get a error that the server identity cannot be verified and that i can cancel or view the certificate.

I tired resetting the network settings, still no joy. I then removed and re-added the email account with no luck. I searched on the web and it showed that you need to install the certificate first so I went into /opt/zimbra/ssl/server.crt and copied the certificate and it did not help. I then went into the /opt/zimbra/ssl/ca and copied the ca.pem and it installed saying verified but still the same error when sending emails. I then uninstalled both certificates and the email account. Then installed them both again and added the account and still nothing.

Is my only option to get a trusted cert before it will work again with my Apple devices?

This is because the certs aren't trusted by apple systems.

Best option is to use letsencrypt.org a free ssl cert generation service. You'll get trusted certs for your mail server.
