zfs snapshot windows server

Hi

I have a windows server and when I snapshot clone it and attach disk to another windows server new and changed files are not there.

zfs sync=standard also tried sync=always

disk is "writeback" also tried "no cache" and "write through"

I also tried to snapshot server when it is offline/turned off, same thing.

When I reboot original server, all files are present and good.

Any clues?

I'm afraid I don't follow you completely. Could you provide the commands to reproduce your problem? What is the output of

qm config VMID

?

new and changed files are not there.

Are we talking about changed after your clone or after some snapshot in the past?

Hi

Basically I have a windows server running and when I add new files or remove folder and then take a snapshot on proxmox, clone it and run attach it to another vm running windows, the changes are not there. This is also the case if I change files, shutdown vm and then take snapshot.

I tried "no cache" and "write through" on the VM and the above is the same.

So very weird, I now upgraded to proxmox 6.x and it works as exspected with "write through" on the VM

Hi,

The problem is happening because you do not have instaled/active the guest agent in the VM. Without the guest agent the snapshot can not call fsfreeze and flush the VM data cache to disk.
