Hi,
I was wondering if someone could shed some light on the issue im having. Currently have a asus z87 gryphon and was going to install ZFS RAID 1 on 2X500gigs and ZFS RAID 1 on 2X4TB. Whats odd i install proxmox 5.1 no issue but when i tries to boot it goes strait to the BIOS. I looked at the sata its AHCI, disabled all uefi and put everything on legacy. Eventually I had to install on 1 500 gig disk ext4 and that did the trick, then i did ZFS RAID 1 for the 4TB. But the OS is using ext4 any ideas?

Thank you

Might be some leftover partition table. Best, wipe your disks completely. Make sure that legacy booting is on and the disks are in the right boot order. Then try the install with the latest PVE iso.

Thanks for the reply, its odd because i bought the new disks from amazon they were clean, i also did
Code:
dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/sdb bs=1024 count=72000 status=progress

is there something i missed on the bios?

Currently had to run ext4 :(

What does that mean exaclty? Grub doesn't even load or it doesn't find a bootable device?

What model are your 500GB disks?

Thanks for the reply, I bought Dell C7F2G MQ01ACF050 2.5" SATA Thin 500GB 7200 Toshiba Laptop Hard Drive Latitude E6430.

when 5.1 installer finishes i reboot it and it goes strait to the BIOS trying to find a bootable device im pretty sure the grub does not install. I go to boot devices and it recognizes the 500gigs disks. I also tried going to 5.0 but it wont install giving me the error

Code:
command chroot /rpool/ROOT/pve-1dpkg --force-confold --configure-a failed with exit code 1 at /usr/vin/proxinstall line 385

Thank you

Thanks for the reply the iso i used was proxmox-ve_5.1-722cc488-1 i think its the first one because i also had to update the grub because was causing bsod on windows server. So im going to download the 3rd version and give it a go

Thank you

EDIT: So i reinstall with the newest ISO and still nothing. i went to debug mode on proxmox and can enter to busybox but im lost after that

With 'lsblk' you may see the disk and with a 'zpool import ' you can find out if the pool imports properly. Then you can go and create a chroot to try a 'grub-install'.

Thanks for the reply, as when i go to debug on proxmox i try lsblk and zpool import vmdata but all these commands say not found

Complete the startup (crtl + D) and abort the wizard, then you should fall into a complete shell.

Thanks for the reply, as i tried installing grub on sdc but now looking at lsblk while running proxmox as LVM is see an uefi partition. I know that uefi cannot work with zfs but i dont know why its installing uefi as on the bios i have legacy only this is very odd and i think that might be the issue is there another way i can work around this? or troubleshoot? as running asus z87 gryphon

If you have installed PVE with ZFS then /dev/sda is your disk (last partition has 8 MB). /dev/sdb has LVM, so it may come from an earlier installation.
