I know the (loose)requirements of ZFS are:

8gb of memory and 1gb per TB

1. If I have ZFS Pool that I bind mount to a container does the container need to follow those guidelines as well or just the host? The reason I ask is because I'm seeing some high memory usage in the container that I can't account for.

2. Do ZFS memory requirements apply to read only use cases?

ZFS runs on the Host, so no memory requirements inside of you LXC guest. Your guest can concentrate on what you need to do with it. Everything else is taken care of.

Generally, the container does not need to care about storage at all, so all mount/fsck-utilities can therefore be deinstalled (if possible), because they do not have any direct device to talk to anyway.
