Hello!

I have followed the instructions on setting a WS 2025 VM on a new ThinkSystem SR250 V3, which has 2 Broadcom BCM5720 NICs. Based on the best practices guide, I have installed the Redhat VirtIO Ethernet Adapter. The ethernet card inside the Windows Server shows as 10G (which is not). Is this normal?

best regards

Hi,

this is normal. The virtual network adapter does not have anything do to with your physical NICs.

It's just that the virtio NIC is presented as 10G to the guest, although in reality it really is CPU-bound.

So is there any way to check the actual bandwidth that the VM is using?
What do you mean here by "using" exactly?

If you mean the possible (raw) bandwidth between the VM and the host bridge - this can be experimentally determined using e.g. iperf3.
The current usage can be viewed via the built-in dashboard in the web UI or some external metrics server.
