Windows 10 freezing / locking up on PVE 5.0 problem

Hi all,

I recently installed PVE 5.0 (prior to the 5.1 official release, I haven't updated this unit yet to 5.1) - I seem to be having an odd issue I haven't been able to track down.

What's happening is that Windows 10 will basically seize up and no longer function properly. It *appears* to happen after a RDP connection is closed to the guest in question. There is nothing in the event viewer of Windows that offers any clue. At first I thought it might have been something with ballooning, so I disabled that; no change. My current check is making sure all power management is turned off on the guest (putting HDD to sleep, disable sleep on the display, etc.)

I am using virtio SCSI and VirtIO ethernet (never caused me any problems on Win7 or Server 2008, and I didn't come across any notes of "don't use" with Win10)

Any thoughts on what might be causing this issue?

do you use the current virtio drivers 0.1.141?
Do you have turned off all power saving in the BIOS?

Yes, 0.1.141 is installed.

In terms of power management, are you talking in the guest VM or on the host system itself?

In terms of the host, I'm pretty sure all power saving is off - it doesn't ever shut down and it was originally one of my test platform servers when I was first trying PVE a few years back.

In terms of the guest, I didn't think there were any real bios configurations that could be done aside from things like acpi support on/off?

I am using the classic bios (SeaBIOS) and not the ufi option when I made the clients - is that an issue for Win10 under PVE?

Host bios. Please check twice because settings like 'c state' or EIST will make Windows unstable.
 
I checked, the only option for power settings on the server was a low power mode option and it was disabled.

Really? That too? I thought it was enough to set the powerregualtor's (Servers like Dell and HP) to maximum performance. So disable all cpu and also pcie powersavings too? There are also a lot... here on supermicro on pcie there are 4 powersavings acitve!
