Hello!
Tell me please. Is it necessary to update proxmox to version 8 on all nodes of the cluster at once?
Will the cluster work correctly if the versions are different (one node is version 7 and the other is version 8)? Or is this approach highly discouraged by the developer?

Hi,

generally mixing different major versions in a cluster is discouraged and may break things. It should only be done for as short as possible during upgrades.

Is it necessary to update proxmox to version 8 on all nodes of the cluster at once?
So yes, you definitely should upgrade all nodes at once. But of course you probably don't want to reboot all at once (especially in HA-enabled environments), so running mixed major versions is practice here when upgrading.

It's not guaranteed, so best to keep the time of different major versions in a cluster as short as possible.

See also our extensive upgrade guide: Upgrade from 7 to 8

Hope this helps :)

Which Proxmox product are we talking about? This is the subforum on Proxmox Mail Gateway, another Software with cluster Support is Proxmox VE. In any case it's a bad idea to use end-of-life Software ( like Proxmox VE 7 which foesn't get sny security patches anymore) or put different major releases in the same cluster. Having different minor releases ( e G. PVE 8.2 and 8.3) in the same cluster isn't ideal ( because it's best practice to install all updates and patches) but should work

Oh right, my bad, looked over the subforum name apparently.

But in any case, the advice on mixed-major-versions clusters applies to PMG the same, FWIW.
And the correct upgrade guide would we Upgrade from 7 to 8 then.

No problem, this was more a question to the OP. It seems to be a general Trend to ask question in the wrong forum, including asking im English in the German forum and vice versa so I wasn't sure which product the OP meant.

Hello!
Yes, I meant Proxmox Mail Gateway.
I was guided by the forum section, so I did not consider it necessary to specify the name of the software.
I'll keep in mind for the future that it's better to write the name of the software.

Anyway, thank you all for the information!
