Which backup strategy

Hello guys,

I'm a Newbie with Proxmox but using it now more intense.
My main VM is an Openmediavault installation with two directly attached USB drives that are syncing to each other via rsync. On top I have a similar installation on a Pi in a different location, rsyncing to the second installation on Proxmox. So my data is basically safe at anytime.

I'm backing up my VM's (only two to this time but more to come, to experiment stuff) on a third USB SSD drive (excluding the drives for OMV because there is no need for that as explained above).

So far so good.

Now I'm looking for an easy backup mode for proxmox itself (ideally on this third USB drive like for VM's), for the case I'm killing the running system by changing config, updating, installing stuff etc. And maybe in case the main SSD is crashing. I have never experienced a drive crash in my life, but I'm just a private user not doing extensive stuff like long videos etc. If my Proxmox hardware is crashing, I want to avoid the hard work re configuring everything, but as initially said, my main Data is always safe. Therefore I guess the Proxmox Backup Server could be a sledgehammer for my needs, but maybe not.
