Where to use Prune

in the GUI of PBS
Datastore
select on the right the Datastore itself [Edit] there you have the Prune Options over the Datastore.

if you select
Datastore
select on the left the Datastore wished and you select a Backup Group VM/162 you have a [Prune] Button to change some Information too.

Which way will be better to use?

Which way will be better to use?

The datastore configuration one is for setting up automatically pruning. They will be used for jobs triggered by the prune schedule.


They affect the whole datastore, so all backup groups on it.

The one in the Content panel of a datastore are for manual pruning a backup group.
Normally it's better to setup a long therm pruning options, so that you're sure to not lose any backups snapshots to early and then use the pruning schedule to automate it.

Manual pruning can be nice to have, but after initial setup this is something which is not used very often, IMO.
