What is saved in back ups?

Hello,
I have a Zentyal system installed on my Proxmox server and I did a backup job where it makes a snapshot of the VM every night.
Zentyal uses two virtual hard disks and I am not sure if everything is saved in the backup because the backups that were created so far have a file size of only ~2 GB whereas the system uses about 20. I did some research but could not find anything about the matter.
Can somebody tell me, what exactly is backed up when I use the Proxmox backup system? How can I make sure that the virtual hard disks get saved aswell?

Hi,
the vzdump backups only the written parts of the disks not the empty.
and if you have set compress (default) it will be smaller the the raw data.
if you want to be sure that everything working fine make an recover on an outer VMID and disable network and check your VM.
