Bare with me on this one.
I know enough about ProxMox you could barely stick it on the head of a pin.
I have several VM's created, and am getting the hang of it, even though I really don't have any real world need for them in my working environment. Having said that, I would like to try something.
We currently have a Production server running 2012 R2, and it runs fine. We use Macrium to image the server every Sunday, and run daily back-up's for the data side of things every night. For back up purposes I already have a dummy server setup and turned off which is based of our current production server in where I used Macrium to restore an image from. If our current production server pukes, all I have to do is fire up my backup server, change the IP address and we'll be off and running.
Now to the point.
When I setup this backup machine, I booted from a bootable thumb drive which launches up Macrium and I can restore an Image saved on a Sata Drive. I use a USB docking station and the Sata Drive which has the image on it, to restore from.
I would really like to create a identical 2012 server in ProxMox based on that scenario like mentioned above in bold type. I usually just get a dummy PC or old server, slap a sata drive in it, and boot from the USB Macrium Boot stick. The run the restore process.
Can you create like a dummy machine, and tell it to boot from my USB Macrium Stick? In a real world environment, I would normally just press the DEL key or F11 or what ever is needed to change boot settings.
Is it doable? I don't even know where to start. Please keep in mind, this is just something I'd like to explore.
Thankx for any info or thoughts on it.
