I am running Proxmox 4.4.
I have 17 Debian 8 Linux containers and 1 Debian 8 VM. The containers all shut down in a reasonable amount of time.
The VM takes quite a few minutes to shut down. In fact, this present go round (as I write this), I've had the spinning circle icon in the status column for about 15 minutes. It seems it may be really stuck this time.
In the past, I believe I've noted that an error would appear about a timeout being hit.
If I right-click on the VM name under Datacenter in Server View, neither Shutdown nor Stop are available. However, if I drop down the arrow on the right side of the Shutdown button (on the display's header), Stop is available. Selecting this will bring the VM down. Reset is also selectable, but I have not tried that as I do not know what it does.
How may I begin debugging where the problem lies in the extended VM shutdown?
EDIT: This go round, selecting Stop as indicated above did not finally bring the VM down, it resulted in a "Connection Error: Timeout" dialog popping up, with the spinning circle continuing to spin in the status column. Waited approx. three minutes, tried Reset. Circle still spinning, "Connection error timeout". Tried to shut down the hypervisor via the web interface. Got "Connection error timeout". Tried "shutdown -P now" from the command line. Hypervisor stopped responding to pings, but spinning circle continues. Perhaps JavaScript still running in the browser, but machine is actually down. Will go check it now. (It is at a remote location.) Appreciate any advice that may be given by the time I return. Thank you!
