VM small freezes after migration

Hi,

I migrated two VMs from XenServer to a simple Proxmox node, the hope being to unload the XenServers of some I/O.
I exported then converted the disks, and created two VM using those disks, and they booted fine (after removing the console=hvc0 from grub).

The problem is they seem to have small freezes every few seconds / minutes, and that causes huge load spikes. I think the freezes are causing the load, not the other way around, but I might be wrong.
During those small freezes iotop on the physical machine shows pretty much no I/O, so I don't think this is the problem.

Currently the VMs are configured with the deadline scheduler, but I tried noop and cfq and that doesn't seem to help. Any idea what else could be causing this ? They were slow on the old servers, but with those spikes it's just unusable.

Thanks

Looks like a hardware problem maybe, I created a new VM and started installing debian, it's been running for half an hour and it's at 40%, it's insanely slow. Just don't know what could cause that ..
