Hi, just wondering about something when running pFSENSE

In the VM overview under summary it says it's using 7,6GB from the allocated 8GB

But under TOP in the VM itself is says it uses only a fraction.

Code:
Mem: 34M Active, 127M Inact, 383M Wired, 144K Buf, 7163M Free

Any ideas? Am I assigning too much memory to Pfsense for home use?

Thx!
K.

Got the same here with OPNsense. Looks like FreeBSD and KVM don't work well together. Here the KVM process will always use the complete RAM you assign to the VM no matter how much of the RAM the guest is actually using. So make sure not to give the VM more RAM than it really needs to not waste memory. If you run top on your host you should see a KVM process that uses 7,6GB RAM. Its easier to see running htop because each process is displayed with its arguments so you can easily see which kvm process belongs to which VM.
