I lost all data disks from one VM after upgrade from 8.4 -> 9.0
I had backup of VM itself in PBS, but no backups on data disks due their size.
Note: Cluster was in use.

After upgrade all VMs and Storages were shown on Node, but those VMs were 'ghosts' as local-lvm was deleted.
During VM restore new VM ID was used as those ghost VM prevented using original ID -> Storage - VM Disks had original ID on name; vm-221-disk-0 and re-attach did not work.

Then I deleted this ghost VM (original ID) and restored VM (new ID) -> all data disks (Storages) lost their configurations and shown as empty.
Actual VM config also lost data disk configurations, but I was able to restore them from backup of /etc/pve/qemu-server/221.conf

I do have full backup of /etc and it's subfolder prior Proxmox upgrade, but I have not figured out how to restore actual Storage/Disk config.
Also /dev/ folder does not show those Storages (NVME_980_1..3 and SSD_Cruc1...3).

Are these VM storage configurations and actual data possible to recover?

I'm not trying to beat you up here, but if the data matters - you back it up. You can get 16TB NAS drive on amazon for under $300, and pay it off in 6 months.

Never try upgrading a server, much less a cluster, without a full backup. The whole reason you run a cluster is for uptime and reliability, why would you skip disks just because they are large unless you could recreate the data easily?

If you don't have one yet, I suggest you buy a support contract and open a ticket with Proxmox Support. This is more of a community forum, and they do have paid help staff.
