VLAN Config at Install - Post install script?

Hi guys,

I’m a VMware refugee, and in our environment, most of our host networking is provided on trunks carrying multiple VLANs.

We perform our initial installs via HPE iLO.

It seems there is no easy way to configure a VLAN for the management NIC during the Proxmox installation, and the only method is via editing the interfaces file. This is annoying but made even more so by the significant typing delays when editing files via iLO. Let’s just say there has been a considerable amount of swearing involved.

One thought I had was to write a script to edit the interfaces file for me after the install, but it seems there’s no support for post-install scripts.

The automated installation process supported by Proxmox also doesn’t seem to support any sort of VLAN configuration.

This led me to think about using raw Debian, configuring the interfaces automatically with a script post-install, and then installing the Proxmox packages.

However, as we are going to be using the Enterprise Repos, I’m not sure this is possible.

Is the Debian with Proxmox packages method even supported with Enterprise licenses? I don’t want to bother heading down that road if it’s not.

Any advice you guys can offer is appreciated.

It is a supported installation method, so yes.
