Hi All,
I have a fresh install of Proxmox 1.4, with all the latest updates applied but I am having troubles with a Win 2k8 Std Edition KVM VM. It runs ok with 1 cpu and 1 core configured but there are random hang ups. Most recently this morning where the console and RDC sessions were available but the screen wouldn't refresh. I was able to ctrl-alt-esc in RDC and use the Windows restart function though. Could be as simple as adjusting the video graphics adapter which I haven't tried because this was the first time I'd seen this behavior.
The biggest issue is when I run the same VM with more than 1 cpu or core. The VM boots normally and runs great, but on reboot, it will hang and never restart. I get a black console screen with an underscore cursor in the upper left hand part of the screen. There are no errors in qm monitor, but the CPU hangs at 96% most commonly (or 96% of all the CPUs configured, ~288%) dmesg shows little other than -
...
kvm: 18089: cpu0 unimplemented perfctr wrmsr: 0xc0010000 data 0x0
kvm: 18089: cpu0 unimplemented perfctr wrmsr: 0xc0010001 data 0x0
...
If I hit the Reset button in the pve web interface, the VM will restart normally. After logging into the VM, there is no report of any error indicating Windows experienced a failure, so the OS didn't crash or fail to shutdown all processes. I tried selecting the Guest OS Type as Other and Windows 2003, but that also exhibited the same behavior.
Here are the vitals for the host machine:
-Dell SC1435, 24GB RAM, Seagate ES 1TB drive, Dual CPU, Quad Core (AMD Opteron Processor 2350)

This VM doesn't reside on the hosts shared storage, it's on the local disk. The second IDE 0:1 drive was from a Win 2k8 Web Edition install on a 1.3 host with the same hardware and just there to grab old data off it.
Running Win2k8 Datacenter Edition or Windows 2k3 (any edition) on any Proxmox version <1.4 runs great with CPU counts from 1 to 8.
Has any one else run into a similar condition under 1.4 and found a fix?
Thanks!
