I have an x86_64 computer with the official version of proxmox ve installed (Virtual Environment 8.3.4, Linux 6.8.12-8-pve kernel). i have external USB HDD connect to this computer, but it's not added inside the storage of the PVE, and it's not mounted to the system, it's just plugged in.
I've found that hard disks are constantly hibernating, waking up, hibernating, waking up .......
I tried modifying /etc/lvm/lvm.conf by adding "r|/dev/sd.*|" or "r|/dev/sdb|", not valid. Also tried pvestatd stop, still no effect. hdd still wakes up constantly.
I have another arm64 computer with an unofficial version of proxmox ve installed(Virtual Environment 7.2-7, Linux 6.1.87-ophub #1 SMP Wed Apr 17 08:18:15 EDT 2024 kernel), proxmox doesn't seem to have an arm version so someone ported it to arm. i connected the same usb HDD to this computer and was shocked to find out that it stays hibernated and doesn't get forced to wake up.
The screenshot is a recording of the power meter socket, which shows the working and hibernating state of the drive.
