Hello,
I am brand new to linux and proxmox. I am trying to make it possible to use a 1TB portable HDD with proxmox so I can use it for image and video storage. I can see the USB HDD in the disks underneath the Proxmox node but I don't understand how to make it useable by proxmox or by Immich

You can wipe it and then format it with one of these options.1768420496324.png
What to choose depends a lot on what you want to use it for exactly and what the disk's model is.
Do you want to use it for block storage? For files? For both? Will the disk stay connected?

I really like ZFS. It can natively do both file and block storage but it's not a good fit for every disk model (tell me yours) and it tends to fail (freezes, for example) when the disk is unplugged.
My second choice would be LVM-Thin but using it for file storage on the node as well (isos, backups, etc) is more challenging as it's just block storage. I'm not a fan of using Directory for virtual disks, especially for CTs, as there's no qcow2 support.
