When I attached an external usb drive it does not register. tried it with another device, same thing. Can anyone help me troubleshoot

Here is my /proc/bus/usb/devices

and here my fdisk -l

Also what are these errors in fdisk -l output?:

Partition 1 does not end on cylinder boundary.

Disk /dev/dm-1 doesn't contain a valid partition table

something to do with LVM being used?

I also have similar issue with usb (keyboard) and the problem appears only after usb reconnect. After cold boot the connected keyboard is detected properly, but nothing happens if I unplug and reconnect it again. dmesg reveals nothing.

The system is Dell PE-2970 and pveversion pve-manager/1.1/3718
I'm pretty sure the this didn't happened with proxmox 0.9 "beta" version but starting from 1.0 release.

Interesting is that keyboard gets detected after execution of lsusb command:
Code:
Bus 003 Device 001: ID 0000:0000
Bus 002 Device 001: ID 0000:0000
Bus 001 Device 003: ID 04b4:6560 Cypress Semiconductor Corp. CY7C65640 USB-2.0 "TetraHub"
Bus 001 Device 002: ID 04b4:6560 Cypress Semiconductor Corp. CY7C65640 USB-2.0 "TetraHub"
Bus 001 Device 001: ID 0000:0000
lsusb doesn't show anything new, but the keyboard reacts immediately and dmesg tells:

Code:
usb 1-4.1.2: new low speed USB device using ehci_hcd and address 7
usb 1-4.1.2: configuration #1 chosen from 1 choice
input: CHICONY USB Keyboard as /devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:03.2/usb1/1-4/1-4.1/1-4.1.2/1-4.1.2:1.0/input/input7
input,hidraw0: USB HID v1.10 Keyboard [CHICONY USB Keyboard] on usb-0000:00:03.2-4.1.2
input: CHICONY USB Keyboard as /devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:03.2/usb1/1-4/1-4.1/1-4.1.2/1-4.1.2:1.1/input/input8
input,hiddev96,hidraw1: USB HID v1.10 Device [CHICONY USB Keyboard] on usb-0000:00:03.2-4.1.2
Now lsusb again and the keyboard is also listed:
Code:
Bus 003 Device 001: ID 0000:0000
Bus 002 Device 001: ID 0000:0000
Bus 001 Device 007: ID 04f2:0111 Chicony Electronics Co., Ltd
Bus 001 Device 003: ID 04b4:6560 Cypress Semiconductor Corp. CY7C65640 USB-2.0 "TetraHub"
Bus 001 Device 002: ID 04b4:6560 Cypress Semiconductor Corp. CY7C65640 USB-2.0 "TetraHub"
Bus 001 Device 001: ID 0000:0000
Any ideas?

Check you hardware - are all usb cables connected?

You can safely ignore them (yes, they are lvm related).

Ok thanks.. Yes all cable where good.

I used the lsusb command this morning and then the usb devices where recognized and loaded. hmmm... anyway it works now.

thanks NVA for the tip:p

This is still just a workaround. I have a few times, accidentially though for example while testing iptables, blocked ssh connections to the server. If no console (usb)keyboard happened to be plugged in the only way to get access back was to power cycle the box. That was a pretty scary action because tens of openvz and kvm virtual machines were still running..

This might be something with udev maybe?
