Upgrade slave to 2.0rc for testing?

I'm wondering (for several reasons, not the least of which, to get off my last lenny boxes), I would like to start playing with 2.0. I have a master and a slave (currently powered off). Is it possible to make a 2.0 installation slave to a 1.9 master? Or are they different enough that this won't work?

I'm currently using OpenVZ, since my hardware, while 64 bit, won't support KVM...

Okay, then what ar my options? Wait till release (and upgrade path from 1.9) seems like the obvious one.

I suggest you start playing on a test machine (instead of a production environment).
