It looks like the above package hasn't been version bumped in a couple of years (https://git.proxmox.com/?p=pve-libspice-server.git;a=summary). There's been an update to libspice-server that adds additional mouse button support for spice, this would greatly help me. I'm just wondering if this is something that will be updated in a near future update? I'm considering trying to help get things moving, but I'm unsure if my experience is enough to be useful.

which version of libspice-server would have the functionality you want? we currently use the debian version of the package for our bullseye builds, the git repo was our backported version for buster
currently packaged in bullseye is:

Code:
Version: 0.14.3-2.1

Ahh, I see what you mean. I was looking at the releases for the package directly (https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/spice/spice/-/releases) instead of the debian source. The functionality of the mouse buttons feature I was looking for was added in 0.14.91. That was an RC version though for 0.15. Does this mean I should wait for the next major version of Debian and it should hopefully include 0.15 then?

in bookworm it seems that 0.15 will be packaged (https://packages.debian.org/de/bookworm/libspice-server-dev) so that's good. normally we are not opposed to backport packages if the features are sensible, but i am not sure if it's worth
it and possible (we have a few packages that'll link against it that may need adaptation)

you can open a feature request to backport the bookworm package here: https://bugzilla.proxmox.com so that other developers also see this and we can discuss & track this better
