Hello,

So my current setup for proxmox (this is for school) is:

1: Usb drive with proxmox installed (logging is disabled for now which should mean my USB will last to the end of this course)

2: Usb network adapter (Has a consistent adapter name which coupled with the USB drive allows me to move from classroom to classroom)

3: A 480 GB SSD in a drive tray for storage (Couldnt install proxmox directly because it has issues when you change machines)

I got proxmox up and running right now, the usb network adapter is configured with DHCP and I can connect to my server. I created 2 virtual machines for my lab exercise however I realized afterwards that these VMs were stored on my USB which is counter intuitive. Proxmox sees the drive, it reports as active and enabled but I cant find a way to transfer these virtual machines to that drive or even upload a file (the button is not highlighted).

Please see the attached screenshot.

you have to either

create a vm on the correct storage ('ssd' according to your screenshot)
or use the 'move disk' button in the vm hardware tab to move the disk there

upload is only for directory based storages (i could only guess what 'ssd' is) and only for isos / container templates
