Hello everyone,

I am having an issue with Proxmox VE when trying to start a VM. The error message I get is:

"TASK ERROR: volume 'local:iso/ubuntu-24.04-live-server-amd64.iso' does not exist"

Here are the details:
  • I have uploaded ubuntu-24.04-live-server-amd64.iso to the local storage.
  • When I try to start the VM, it fails with the above error.
  • I have checked in Datacenter > Storage > local > Content, but the ISO file does not appear.
What could be causing this issue, and how can I fix it? Do I need to re-upload the ISO or check the storage settings?

Thank you in advance for your help!

Hello,
iso files on local storage are most likely expected to be stored in /var/lib/vz/template/iso/
So put your iso there and it should work.
You can check the storage config at various places, one is to run cat /etc/pve/storage.cfg in the node's cli.
Output will be something like that
Code:
dir: local
        path /var/lib/vz
        content backup,vztmpl,iso

How did you upload the iso to the Proxmox node anyway?

That .iso was used to install the VM. Right?

Just remove the virtual DVD from the virtual drive: <yournode> --> <yourvm> --> hardware --> CD/DVD Drive --> double click --> select the Radio Button "Do not use any media"
