I'm unable to obtain DRBD-related packages from the community repository for Proxmox VE 8. After installation, the system shows it's running a "test" version. Does Proxmox VE 8 actually support DRBD? I'm getting kernel-related errors, but I can't find or install a stable kernel version.

Can this feature be used and a stable kernel version obtained by subscribing to the Community Edition?

There is no difference between the versions with and without subscription. The subscription doesn't give you additional features but:

  • For all subscription levels starting with "Community subscription":
    • Disable the nag-screen
    • Give access to the enterprise-repositorys. Normally new versions of the software first gets pushed to the test and no-subscription repositorys. So if you don't have a subscription you basically pay by geing an unpayed beta tester. For my homelab that's a fair deal. In a corporate environment I would insist that my company spends money to get a version where new bugs of new versions are hopefully already solved.
  • For subscription levels starting with "basic":
    • Support from the Proxmox team
    • Depending on the level the reaction times and number of free tickets are different
    • Removal of the nag-screen in Proxmox Datacenter Manager and access to it's enterprise repo (works the same as above)
  • For subscription levels starting with "standard":
    • Remote support via ssh
Additionally you can buy support packages from a Proxmox Partner in case of emergencys, where you need a faster respone times (e.g. if you are in a different time zone than Austria) or run out of the number of support tickets your subscription gives you.
