unable to mount raw file

Hello,

We do have a VM (windows server 2008) running under proxmox node (version 2.3). The problem is that it stopped working with a blue screen error (we have not done any modification recently in the server). We tried reboots but it ends with bluescreen again. Now the server is not accessible and we are unable to retrieve the data. We tried safe mode, repair, recovery etc and nothing is working for us.

We need at least to get the data from C drive. So we created another windows VM in the same node and tried to mount the raw file (.raw) of the VM (C drive) to the new VM as a secondary drive, but its not mounting. It seems that file system has been corrupted for C drive. We can see that "fvevol.sys" is not loading when we tried to start with safe mode.

Is there any way to mount this .raw file (C drive) on the same VPS or another VPS, or alternatively recover the data from .raw file?

Please help us as we are under pressure now.

have you tried mounting that disk on a linux machine (vm, even booting from a live iso)?

If the Windows Server C drive is still somewhat accesible, the option mentioned by Marco will most certainly do the trick. Just boot your Windows VM with a Linux ISO such as Mageia or Ubuntu and you will see the NTFS partition. If this works, try adding a new virtual disk into the Windows VM. Boot with live Linux ISO, format the new hdd with NTFS and copy files from damaged Windows C Drive into the newly created NTFS virtual hard drive. Saved my dead windows VMs many times this way.
