Hi new proxmox - but have some history with Vmware and Hyper-v (don't hold it against me)
i have just added new drives and rebuilt my proxmox server

install went fine - but I am unable to connect on port8006
i can ping the server and the server can ping my host and the internet - where do i start on resolving this problem

thanks in advance

Hi @webbie ,

Here is a list of questions one would normally start with:

  • What is the IP of the PVE server?
  • What is the IP of your workstation?
  • What is the IP of your gateway?
  • Can you ping the PVE server?
  • Can you ssh into PVE server?
  • What is the output of "ip a" on PVE?
  • What is the corresponding output from your workstation? (ipconfig /all ; ip a)
  • What is the output of "curl -k https://127.0.0.1:8006" when run directly from PVE (over SSH or physical console?)
  • What is the output of "curl -k https://LAN_IP:8006" when run directly from PVE (over SSH or physical console?)

The output tells us that the PVE services are running and fine, as they respond locally.
The network output indicates that you are running MacOS with virtualization services, is PVE running on an isolated physical server , or as a virtualized VM?

The problem is in your networking. If PVE and Workstation are isolated hosts, then usual suspects are:
- MTU mismatch
- Duplicate IP
- Firewall on client/Mac
- Firewall on the switch/router (many smart home switches block workstation from talking to each other, especially when DHCP is involved)

My suggestion for you is to engage in basic network troubleshooting at this point. There is nothing wrong with PVE.

Good luck

thanks for the quick response

PVE is running on a seperate physical intel box
my machine I am connecting from is a m4 mac

will look into physical network but I can ping out to the internet from PVE and my mac is fine talking to the rest of my network
the only change is me rebuilding PVE

I found the problem - seems the nic on the motherboard was faulty somehow - i popped in 4x1GB intel Nic and things are running well again - thank you to everyone who assisted
