I have just booted my laptop from a USB that had the Proxmox ISO burned on it. I fully installed it, created the account, etc. However, I am not able to access it from a web browser. The site it is telling me to use is https://192.168.100.2:8006/ which is then prompts this message on Chrome: "

This site can’t be reached

192.168.100.2 took too long to respond.

Try:
ERR_CONNECTION_TIMED_OUT"

on my laptop running proxmox, I was able to log in and provide some basic info, any help is appreciated!! 1719544180830.png

Do you see the interface where your IP is configured? Its called vmbr0.
Do you see the underlying interface inside vmbr0? Its wlp0*
Do you see the state of the wlp0* interface as DOWN? Its not working.
WLP prefix suggests that its a wireless card. Review the related wiki entry https://pve.proxmox.com/wiki/WLAN
Plug in "proxmox wirelss" into youtube search. Review a few videos, ie https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZQ2Eb6daUiw

Good luck

Thank you! I just reviewed the given links but I am a little confused on how to change the state of the wlp0 interface? What command is used for that? Should I boot my laptop from Ubuntu again and change the state? I am trying that right now...

I dont use PVE with wireless interfaces, so I cant help you further. I'd recommend studying existing resources and if that does not work for you, come back with exact information of what you tried and what was the outcome.

Most importantly, keep in mind the first statement of the WLAN wiki : "Avoid using WLAN if possible"

Good luck

PVE is probably the wrong product for you. It is an enterprise product that normally runs on a dedicated server. Out of the box PVE sets up a bridge (vmbr0 in your output), which acts like a switch. Your VM's connect to the bridge to talk to the network.

Problem is, wifi doesn't support bridging. For security reasons most access points reject frames that don't have the client radio's MAC address. Also, PVE doesn't install any of the tools you need to configure a wifi interface, since nobody sane uses wifi for a server anyway.

You can overcome all of those obstacles. PVE is based on Debian, so you can install the required firmware for your wifi device and NetworkManager or other tools to manage the wifi from the repository using the apt command. You can configure a routed setup instead of a bridged one. This is all possible, and the links @bbgeek17 provided give info on how to do that. But that is not how PVE is designed to be used.

You might be better off running a desktop virtualization product like VirtualBox or virt-manager on your Ubuntu. Those configure NAT routing by default and will work fine with wifi.

Thank you!! Do you think it is possible to follow the steps on this link?
https://forum.proxmox.com/threads/h...n-a-laptop-workstation-with-wifi-wlan.102395/

If so, how do I get out of a package, like how do I disable the enterprise repository and then save it? Ctrl Z gets me out of it but then it tells me that it has "stopped".
