New to the PM world and thought I'd start with creating some VMs to see how they behave.
  • Running PM 8.3.2 on Lenovo Thinkcentre w/32gb RAM, 250gb internal storage, additional SSD 1tb
  • Did a Create VM and used a downloaded Ubuntu 24.04LTS Desktop
    • 2gb RAM
    • 1 socket/core
    • default BIOS
    • Default display (changed to Std VGA) no difference in behavior
    • 60gb HD
After the install, do a reboot as required.
Access the Console to continue and update
  • Get to the Login screen via VNC consoleinitial-screen.png
  • when I move the mouse in the screen, it blanks out, and returns.
blank-screen.png
  • that continues to happen and never am able to log in via the console
  • occasionally I am able to type in portion of the password then it blanks out eventually returning but it cycles through again.

I am able to ssh in with no problem just can't access the console.

Appreciate any direction/assistance.

What option are you using for your display driver

You could also consider trying to use spice rather than vnc and see if that helps with your issue
Display is currently set to Default Standard VGA. I've changed it to SPICE (qxl) and went back to the console and it still displayed NoVNC however it did let me log in with no screen issues. Is that the way it's supposed to work? Sorry, I'm a newbee with PM. Thank you for your suggestion tho. It did help!

Spoke too soon. It started to happen again. I am rebooting the device to see if that helps. I am not sure if the change is dynamic.

Spice is an alternative to noVNC, while no VNC is what the proxmox web UI uses, Spice has some additional features like usb pass-through and audio. If you select the drop down next to the console button (same place where shutdown is) you can select spice.
As it's not built into the web UI, spice requires a client on your machine such as vert viewer

By the sounds of things changing your display has fixed your issue. The remote console should work regardless of what you're using as your display driver but it seems there was potentially a driver issue.

You can to continue using VNC through the web UI as you have been, if you continue to have issues, try a different display driver

Thanks for your direction. I'm good at the moment. SOLVED.
