Two node cluster ?

I need to install a new cluster with 3 nodes but for now I have only 2 nodes , third one coming later, in maybe two week. In the meantime I need to run some VM on these two nodes (on local HD) and so I am wondering if it is better not to cluster the nodes and create a cluster when I get the third node.

Can two nodes join a cluster with VMs running on them assuming they do not have VMs number in the same range or it is not recommended ? The third node would have no VMs on it.

Or is it better to get the VMs backed up when the time comes and remove from the nodes, join the nodes into the cluster and restore ? I can afford some downtime when doing it.

Any advice appreciated!

No, that is not possible. But it is perfectly valid to create a two node cluster. Three nodes are only required if you need HA.
