I pulled a nic card out of my server and swaped the Linux bridge to a new port. Upon booting back up my system date is stuck at 2042 and cannot connect to a ntp server
For anyone who comes across this, you can use date --set="date -s "27 APR 2020 16:42:00" to set the date roughly to the right time which should solve most problems that occur from a time offset that is too big.
To write the system time to the HW clock use hwclock --systohc.
Should the time again be way off after a reboot / power cycle check the battery on the motherboard that supplies the HW clock. It might be empty.
