I would like to use a RS815+ Synology NAS as iSCSI storage.

I configured the NAS with 2 volumes:
  • disks 1,2 on RAID1 for data (shared folders)
  • disks 3,4 on RAID1 for backup

Now I have to create a iSCSI LUN to use as PVE storage.

Synology NAS currently supports this types of iSCSI LUNs.

The problem:
  • Proxmox doesn't work with file-level storage
  • Synology block-level storage seem to require an entire volume

Someone have enough experience with Synology NAS to suggest me a solution?

TIA for your precious help.

Hi! i work with synology and NFS, i think that it´s the best option because ISCSI and NFS are similar. and it´s working good. my advice? fiber port 10G if you can. if not...bonding 2Gb, you should have SSD cache configured and SAS 10K or more.we have 3 nodes HP proliant and shared we have RS815RP+.

don´t worry! if you have more questions , i can help you :)
Hi
I'm new with all this Server Stuff
I just Set up a ThinkCenter M93P with 180 GB
I want to run several Windows Machines, so I need another storage
I have a Synology so setup NFS I can run VMs BUT I cannot do Snapshots what is mandatory for testing.

I heard something of ZFS over ISCSI
can you be so kind and help me setting this up?
IF this will also allow Snapshots
