Suggestions for fencing setup?

Hi guys,

i now now that to get HA working I am going to need fencing.

The problem i have is that the test equipment i have has no obvious fencing hardware:

4x Dell PowerEdge 860s
2x APC UPS
2x Netgear Switches
1x Netgear ReadyNAS 2100

1x UPS Powers 2x 860s, 1 Switch and the ReadyNAS (SPoF)
1x UPS Powers 2x 860s, 1 Switch

All network traffic is bonded but connected to a separate switch - the switch has a 2Gbps Trunk.

Any suggestions on how i could get the fencing working? As i ahve explained in the past there is no money for any additional equipment. (I'm using this test equipment to prove the use of proxmox with HA - so that i can buy some new hardware rather than spend it on software)

I use the APC AP7920/AP7921 (Got a couple on ebay for £130 each), these are great for fencing as you can instantly power off and on... good for remote DC management too...

Only difference is 20 is 12Amp and 21 is 16Amp

My UPS only have a USB connection (APC 2200 and APC 3000)

Sounds like your going to need a machine to manage them... not ideal... id seriously suggest the ap7920, they act as a machine themselves with their own IP, API and CLI.... and there are already fencing apps around to manage the apc too...

is there no software that could emulate a fencing device? I'm 100% sure that it would be possible to get the machine to kill itself if it lost connection to the cluster.

The plan is to provide some self-fencing ability using watchdogs in future. But currently nobody is working on that.
