Hi, I have a Proxmox machine (installed alone, in my LAN and in 1Gbps LAN) and when I´m trying to download a backup from the local Proxmox to my local computer, the speed is really slow (about 1Mbps or lower).... I mean in local LAN... also tried to connect directly the Proxmox machine with my computer with same result....
From Proxmox to computer about 1Mbps or lower
From computer to Proxmox at 1Gbps

The installation is clean, the system is upgraded.

I installed speedtest (on Proxmox machine) to check with internet connection and with this goes OK... incoming traffic up to 100Mbps (my connection limit) and outcoming traffic is about 30 Mbps (my provider conection limit)

Where I can fix this error? It´s only with local LAN, not with internet connection.

Thanks!!

Hi, what do you mean by "download a backup"... Do you mean you are trying to perform a restore of a backup? Please check the CPU load, disk- and network-IO on your Proxmox Server while doing the restore (if that is what you are doing). Also, you might specify which hardware the server is running on in order for us to help.

Hi, no, I have two hard disks, one with the base system and a second with the VM backups (I have configured to do backups of each VM every night).... when I say download a backup is "download a VM backup from Proxmox to my desktop computer" to have saved the backup outside the Proxmox.
But with speedtest works fine, issue only when move files on local LAN

The hardware is an HP Compaq Elite 8300 Ultra-Slim with SSD for system and HDD for backups and isos

00:19.0 Ethernet controller [0200]: Intel Corporation 82579LM Gigabit Network Connection [8086:1502] (rev 04)

Okay, so what tools do you use to download the backup files? In order to test the speed to your Proxmox host you should use tools like fio https://github.com/axboe/fio to test the IO speed on your LAN, the speedtest with the inet does not say much in this case.

Hi, yes, you´re right, the trouble is sshd service.

With iperf3 I can perform 400Mbps up and down on Local LAN... but when I execute "top" in Proxmox machine and try to download the backup, sshd process goes up to 100% CPU use...

But I remember months before doesn´t have this trouble... I think could be any update issue...

It´s strange because is an 4 cores i3 with 16Gb RAM memory... and only happens when download from Proxmox to computer... from computer to Proxmox it goes at 100 Mbps (my computer has 100Mbps NIC)

Hi, I tried with Filezilla and speeds goes at 300Mbps... I checked Filezilla connection and it connects at SFTP... tried again on WinSCP at SFTP instead of SCP and speed are right... about 300Mbps.

Something wrong with ssh secure copy....

Thanks for your help che... with your help I find the "trouble"

Best Regards!!

I'm glad it worked out for you!

Note that scp is really old now and there are ongoing discussions on deprecating it, see this LWN article for example https://lwn.net/Articles/835962/
Using more modern tools is a good idea here, sometimes it is just time to let go of old habits...
