Really unusual problem today and figured it out through an hour of google and forum searching, figured I would post just for others.

I won;t get into specifics or details, but the main issue was that on reboot, I got a kernel panic saying basically "ramdisk: write incomplete", along with some VFS errors. To fix, I booted from a Debian Squeeze netinst cd into advanced/rescue mode. When I got to the section on mounting a root partition, I chose my root (/dev/mapper/pve-root), executed a shell in it, and then simply ran "update-initramfs -u -t -k all"

Rebooted and was good to go. Still trying to figure out how the h*ll init got corrupted in the first place but whatever - hopefully this helps someone in a later search.

BTW - Proxmox devs - thanks for the awesome work!
