For some reason I am not able to upgrade to 7.2 and was wondering if there was some trick in getting this working.

Running an apt update && apt upgrade -y doesn't result in doing anything.
I had thought maybe it was due to not using the Proxmox VE No-Subscription Repository but even switching to this it wont update.

Any hints?

I guess you added the wrong repository or didn't removed the enterprise one.

Verify that is is really this:
Code:
deb http://ftp.debian.org/debian bullseye main contrib
deb http://ftp.debian.org/debian bullseye-updates main contrib

# PVE pve-no-subscription repository provided by proxmox.com,
# NOT recommended for production use
deb http://download.proxmox.com/debian/pve bullseye pve-no-subscription

# security updates
deb http://security.debian.org/debian-security bullseye-security main contrib

Whats the output when doing a apt update?

And you should NEVER EVER do a apt upgrade. This won't check for dependencies and might screw up your whole PVE installation. Use apt dist-upgrade or apt full-upgrade only.

Hi, yes that was it, I needed to remove the enterprise repo's. I thought it would just be ignored but it breaks it. Thank you.
