Good Day All,

We receintly upgraded our servers from HDDs to SSDs for vm storage but one of them is giving us smart errors for 2 of the removed drives.

See below from one of the drives.

How do we go about resolving this error.

Code:
This message was generated by the smartd daemon running on:

   host name: --
   DNS domain: --

The following warning/error was logged by the smartd daemon:

Device: /dev/sde [SAT], failed to read SMART Attribute Data

Device info:
WDC WD10JFCX-68N6GN0, S/N:WD-WXC1A68AJRZU, WWN:5-0014ee-265967ee4, FW:82.00A82, 1.00 TB

For details see host's SYSLOG.

You can also use the smartctl utility for further investigation.

I'm having the same problem on a fully updated non-subscription node (8.3.5)

My guess is that ProxMox is caching SMART reports, and with those drives no longer in the system, it is just re-sending the daily alert based on the last saved version. I'm hoping that a reboot will "fix" it.

I've submitted it to the bug tracker.

I migrated all vms off of the host in question and preformed a reboot and have not seen the error reocure so this may just be the case.
