Hiya.

I have 2 identical Dell 710 servers
Both with 6 x 2TB HDU set in a raid 5 config.

PVE installs fine on the 1st server but is incredibly slow on the second server, it gets to 23% and that is when i have stopped it, after around 2 hours.

I swapped the drives over and still the same issue.

Any ideas?

Regards

On a further note.
3.4 now no longer installs on either machine now.
I have re burnt and re downloaded the image

however version 4 does work on both, very strange

are you installing locally or via a iKVM console ?

I am installing them locally.

I left one over night, and it completed.

The install is working on both machines now, and takes around 50 mins.

I haven't changed anything that i can think of but happy they are both now working.

Just curious, have you checked output of smartctl / to confirm smart output-stats regarding health of the various disks involved? ie, they have reasonable or low numbers of reallocated blocks, no pending fail warning, etc etc ? Sometimes smart status review can give you hints about pending failures that have not fully expressed themselves yet.

Also to mention, if I am reading it correctly, you are installing to a Raid5 built on top of 6 x 2Tb drives - ie - you have ~9+Tb of space in a single large logical disk volume on the raid controller presented to the proxmox installer? In which case I would anticipate, that formatting the large fraction of such a ~9Tb volume, to an ext4 filesystem, would be expected to take 'a fair while' - depends on how lovely the raid controller is (Perc6 style or nicer true HW LSI Raid vs some semi-low-end sorta-hardware-raid-but-lower-performance controller?)

Just a few thoughts that spring to mind.
