Shutdown when not needed?

Can anyone see an issue with turning off the PBS when not in use?

I would set the power state in the bios so it will turn on when power is returned.
The sever would run a cron job to turn its self off and then the PDU would remove power. The power would be restored 1 hour before it is needed again.

Looking to reduce power usage do to it being idle 5 days a week.

If it is needed at other times it would be fired up by restoring the power with the PDU.

Thanks

The issue with turning PBS most of the time is your Prune/Garbage Collection/Verification tasks will pile up over time. The GC process is very resource intensive. So most likely it will try to do this when backup is taking place. Then get shutdown again before important tasks are finished. If all trying to run at the same time, your actual backup process is going to slow down significantly. If the PBS does not have enough resources,

You could also perhaps turning it on sometimes 1 or 2 days for several hours so GC can finish. Other than that, there is nothing wrong with shutting down PBS to conserve power and only turn it on when needed.
