I have installed an ubuntu guest using kvm on proxmox 1.5 with kernel 2.6.32-2-pve.
how does the shutdown button work? what little I find seems that it uses ACPI power button press event, but i see nothing happen in the guest. The conf file does have acpi:1 and the guest dmesg has stuff about acpi so I'm not sure what's missing here

Hello,

In windows you just need to change a GPO (that permits anonymous shutdown).

In ubuntu.. Do not know!

even XP/2003?

I am trying one windows 2003 guest as a conversion, but it's not seeing ACPI has a HAL option so I wouldn't expect it to work

huh, wonder why that's not in by default... works now.... now to figure out why my windows install can't be forced to an ACPI hal

I know these things, but the issue is that somehow this install is using an MPS hal instead of an ACPI hal so those setting are never even tested.

it's not a kvm or proxmox issue, it's something with how this OS install was treated in the past. I'll probably just have to clean install it.
