I'd like to build a PBS system, and I can look at the tech requirements for that, but I'd like to know what people in this community are using (either at home or in the enterprise) for their hardware setups. Please share what is working for you and if there were any hiccups getting there. Thanks.

PBS with datastore on HDDs for data + SSDs for metadata over NFS and 10Gbit NICs. As I don't care about downtime or performance and only need to store 1-2 TBs of backups so this is usable. With HDD-only this wasn't usable, not even in a homehab. Keep in mind that 1TB of VM/LXC backups will result in ~500,000x 2MB chunk files and you need to read/write ALL of them all the time (re-verify, GC) doing not sequential but random IO. Doing millions over millions of random IO every week isn't great if a HDD can only handle something like 120 IOPS.
