Restored a VM from backup, now is it possible to find/restore the older version?

I restored a VM from a backup and lost some data in the process (it's a mysql server).

I'm trying to figure out if the VM's disk, prior to restore, is available anywhere. I found this directory /etc/lvm/archive but not sure if I'm on the right track. Any help is appreciated!

if you 'overwrote' the vm with the restore, the old disks are deleted (the gui warns you of this)

in the future, you can always restore to a different vmid first, and only then delete the old vm

Thank you for your reply Dominik. Can you tell me what the files are in this directory? /etc/lvm/archive

it contains an archive of the lvm layout from some lvm changes. but it does only contain the metadata (where on the disk was the data)
data that was written afterwards overwrites the data from before (in case of a restore this is like what happened, 1. destroy -> 2. write of the new data)
