Hello.

My OVH server got turned offline due a "security issue".

Now i only got ftp read only access.

Is there any way to restore the vms full to another proxmox server? Im already wgetting the .qcow2 files from the server but this will take some hours since each is 500gb, but im not sure if its enough to recover the data?

Hi.

The disk images (.qcow2, raw, ...) are the most important part, when you have them you're on an good way.

Normally it works if you only have the disk images. Other way to restore it would be add a new VM and change it's disk to the backed up one, finished.

I would additional get the whole /etc/pve directory backed up. It is the mount point of the proxmox cluster file system (pmxcfs) which holds all the configs form VMs , storage’s and other cluster important data.
You could also copy back the VM configsof your machine to the other PVE host, but you may have to edit them manually to adapt to the other PVE host (other storage’s, where the disk image is located, when a VM with the VMID already exists you have to change yours, ...).

You could create a new VM with a dummy disk in qcow2 format and then swap out the disk on the storage where you put the dummy disk.

qemu-img info /path/to/disk/file.qcow2

gives you the size of your disk you should use for the dummy disk on creation, use the "virtual size" field.

Hope that helps :)

Thanks for the advise; After creating a new vm I did swap the disk and renamed it to vm id I created.

Am getting this error now "deleted inode referenced: 406332321..." then brings "Enter runlevel:"
