[SOLVED] Restore VM Very Slow

Hello !

My restore backups are very slow when my storage is create in lvm-thin .. Restoring a vm of 60Go (what ever that bakcup is located on nas or on local : same result) take more than 24 hours !!! they are no log and no problem, just the restore are progressing very very slowly.

However, when i create a storage in directory (ext4), i restore this same bakcup in 30 minutes.

I want use lvm-thin to use snapshot

That's Wrong with lvm-thin ?

Any ideas ?

Configuration :
Hp proliant DL380 Gen10 ---> firmware ilo and ROM bios are up to date
Os proxmox installed in /dev/sda on RAID1 SSD 500Go
Vms are located in /dev/sdb on RAID5 (4 physical disk) 10TB
Raid is configured with the controller raid of Server HP Proliant DL380
Proxmox 6.3-6

is the directory storage and lvmthin on the same disk?

lvmthin has a performance penalty on new lvs, since on every block that is allocated, lvmthin first has to zero it out so you basically write everything twice, but this should not take
48 times as long...

are the disks ok? (smartctl/dmesg/syslog)

i'd do a write benchmark on the disk, the hdparm command only becnmarks reads, which can be wildly different from the writes..

Hello !
I think i've resolved the problem !!

It was the firmware of my Controller Raid Card !!

Be careful on HPE ProLiant DL380 Gen10 Server : if you Controller Raid is on 2.65 firmware update to 3.0
It works for me !!


Update : On a second server hp proliant380 Gen with same card controller raid not working. Restor are always very slow.

Be carefull with HP and Proxmox many problems !!!

look here, debian and proxmox aren't listed on os support ! Only HyperV, Vmware etc ..

Sometimes it works and sometimes not, it's, nothing to understand with HP !!
